As an Operatic Classical Baritone Simon’s roles include

  • Aeneas in Dido And Aeneas, Marcello in La Boheme, Noye in Noyes Fludde, Escamillo in Carmen, Belcore in L’Elisir D’amore, Silvio in Pagliacci, Naoise in The Morrigan, Ipparco in L’Egisto, Cox in Cox and Box, Ramiro in L'heure espagnole, Danilo in The Merry Widow, Candide in Candide, and Antony in Sweeney Todd. 

  • He has performed leading roles in extended highlights of over 30 operas with highlights including Werther in Werther, Don Giovanni in Don Giovanni, and Scarpia in Tosca.

  • Concert performances include Raphael/Adam in The Creation by Haydn, Bach’s B Minor Mass, and Christmas Oratorio, The Mozart Requiem, Saint-Saens Oratorio De Noel, the Chichester Psalms by Bernstein, and the Baritone Solo in Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana.

  • Simon has performed as a member of the National Chamber Choir of Ireland, he was the conductor of the University Chamber Choir, and Graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Music and Arts from University College Dublin. He continues his association with University College Dublin, where he has helped coach and take part in recordings for Signum records with the Choral Scholars of University College Dublin, 

  • He has a Postgraduate in Performance from The Royal Conservatoire in Scotland, and has a First Class Honours Masters from The Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, with his final Thesis entitled “An ethnographic, musicological and arts practice exploration of Post Vatican II Irish liturgical composition”.

  • A frequent Concert soloist throughout Ireland-including concerts live on Lyric and RTE Radio One with ensembles including The National Symphony Orchestra and the RTE Concert Orchestra, Simon has also performed at Concerts and Festivals throughout the World. 


Standout Classical performances include:

  • The Role of Antony in Sweeney Todd, in The Gate Theatre’s award-winning production of Sweeney Todd (Winner of best Opera at the irish Times Theatre Awards)

  • The role of Silvio in Cork Operatic Society’s production of Pagliacci (Also Winner of Best Opera at the Irish Times Theatre Awards).

  • The role Of Noah in Noah’s Fludde for the Limerick European City of Culture celebrations at St Mary’s Cathedral Limerick.

  • Debuting the role of Naoise in John O Brien and Éadaoin O'Donoghue’s Opera The Morrigan at Cork Midsummer Festival.

  • As part of the Creative team behind Dublin City Council’s “Opera in The Open” series each summer in Dublin Simon has performed and produced countless roles and Operas.

  • He has written and arranged for groups from barbershop quartets to Chamber groups, to Symphonies Orchestras and for International Artists including Placido Domingo for whom he has Orchestrated.

  • With his friend and colleague, Soprano Sandra Oman, he has been delighted in more recent times to be part of an Initiative to introduce Young Artists to the Concert and Opera Stage at venues from The National Concert hall to various Arts Festivals.


Other Projects

Simon is passionate about Education and exploring New and World Music; In this capacity he has been involved in Educational Programmes with the National Symphony Orchestra, has recorded extracts for Lecture Series with Wexford Festvial Opera, and been involved with development of New Opera with Projects including “Bird” by composer Julie Feeney and “Creatures of Habit” by Tom Lane and Lily Akerman. As an explorer of Music in James Joyce, he has performed in lecture series on “Music in Joyce” in venues from Rome, to Trieste, The National Library of Ireland to The James Joyce Centre and Notre Dame University with Professor Barry Mc Crea. Simon has also curated, and acted as Musical Director for numerous shows on the main stage of our National Concert Hall and at festivals at home and abroad.

In a more contemporary environment, Simon is the founder and artistic director of The Moorings, A group whose album “Thomas Moore Reimagined” recording has been album of the week on Lyric. This album was launched with a concert on the main stage of the Abbey Theatre; As well as featuring in The TG4 documentary, Thomas Moore, Bard na hÉireann , Simon curated a concert celebrating the bard with artists including Eddi Reader, Elanor Mc Evoy, Corma De Barra, Martin Tourish and Jack O Rourke at The National Concert Hall of Ireland.

With The Richie Buckley Quintet he has released The Album “An Irish Songbook” giving fresh Jazz leaning sensibilities to some of Ireland’s finest tunes. Other projects include A Scott Walker appreciation with Glasshouse; artistic co-director of “The New Café Orchestra” continuing the world music Jazz explorations of the late great Pat Collins.


Simon served as the artist-in-Residence for Dun-Laoghaire Rathdown in 2024 and for Dun Laoghaire Rathdown has curated, with Artscope, several Recital Programmes throughout the district including a wide variety of diverse artists from Eamon Sweeny and Malachy Robinson to Ailbhe McDonagh and Lynda O Connor.
